Below is a recently completed project for a client who are designers and builders of timber framed properties. Our original brief was to produce some still photography during the build, but when we realised how quick and dramatic the process of building these properties actually was, we switched to time lapse photography to try and capture the high paced action as it unfolded.

We have since produced the following video of the build using the time lapse footage taken on site and turned it into both a hi-resolution DVD for boardroom presentations and a flash video for web use.

New Italian Restaurant in Wetherby

The restaurant is being developed at the site of the historic Angel Public House , on North Street in Wetherby. The artist’s impression above has been produced by ourselves from photography we took before the work on the restaurant and it’s extension began.

Franco, the developer and owner of the new Italian Restaurant has operated several very successful Italian Restaurants in the Wetherby area over many years. His first, over twenty years ago now, was located in The Horsefair Centre just ten yards from where the above photograph was taken from. He moved that restaurant to a new site by the river Wharfe in Wetherby in 1993 where La Locanda, as it was then, became the most popular Italian Restaurant Wetherby has ever had, catering for over 350 diners per night on it’s beautiful riverside setting.

La Locanda eventually moved to new premises on the site of  The Barleycorn Pub in Collingham a few miles out of Wetherby and was eventually sold to an Italian Restaurant Chain who have since re-branded the restaurant to suit the chains requirements.

Franco has been asked constantly by his old regular customers when he was re-opening an Italian Restaurant in Wetherby for the last couple of years, and is now delighted to be so close to the opening of his new establishment in June.

The Angel, where his new restaurant is being built will continue to trade from a brand new sports bar area, which is being developed above it’s existing location and will continue with all it’s regular offerings of  Wines, Spirits and Beers along with Pool Table facilities and new dance floor.

Below the Sports Bar will be a brand new Italian Wine Bar which will become a relaxing place for restaurant customers to meet and enjoy a few drinks before they move through to the new restaurant to dine. The facility to enable customers to do this was a key part of the successful formula Franco had when he was at riverside and something his customers have not been able to do since he moved out of  Wetherby.

The Italian Restaurant will provide an exciting environment to accommodate up to 140 diners at a time and is sure to become as popular as any of Franco’s previously successful establishments and will enable over 400 diners to be fed each day.

The menu’s are being planned and prepared at the moment and many new dishes are being tried and tested to further enhance the popular items which have always featured in Franco’s menu’s. Below are some of the old favorites, many of which are sure to be available when the new premises opens.

The studio product photography was shot on location in their workshops in Leeds. We took our portable studio lighting to their premises to enable us to produce studio quality photographs of their products.

As we only had small samples of the worktops that the sinks are designed to be fitted into, we had to shoot images which could later be cut out and placed into a real looking kitchen environment, to fully enhance the products.

The lighting was designed to give a similar appearance to the light one would normally expect to see a kitchen sink lit by, which is back-lit when in positioned in front of a bright kitchen window.

This would then help to make the final image look as realistic as possible when the product is cut out and placed into a real looking kitchen environment.

Below is the finished product photograph, which we created in image editing software using a combination of illustration and additional photographs.

This process was much less expensive to do, than to build a real kitchen room set to photograph the product in.

Now we have produced this artificial background for the product, it will enable us to provide consistent looking images in the future of new products as they are periodically added into the product range.

Again, as it would have been more expensive to have the following taps plumbed in for the product photography, we have added a simulation of water flowing to enhance these images. If we hadn’t told you, there is a good chance you may not have noticed, but it helps with keeping the product photography looking both consistent and stylised when used in the products sales material.

Food photography offers many challenges, whether it is produced in the studio or on location.

The key to photographing food is to be different everytime. Every type of food has been photographed thousands of times and for a new food shot to be interesting and fresh, then it must have an element which really catches the viewers eye to spark interest in the subject or it will quickly be overlooked.

This required element of creativity is what makes food photography both challenging and fun, and is why we love working in this field, whether it is for food packaging, a recipie book or a hotels menu.
