A new Italian Restaurant, Sant’Angelo’s is coming to Wetherby this year.
The restaurant is being developed at the site of the historic Angel Public House , on North Street in Wetherby. The artist’s impression above has been produced by ourselves from photography we took before the work on the restaurant and it’s extension began.
Franco, the developer and owner of the new Italian Restaurant has operated several very successful Italian Restaurants in the Wetherby area over many years. His first, over twenty years ago now, was located in The Horsefair Centre just ten yards from where the above photograph was taken from. He moved that restaurant to a new site by the river Wharfe in Wetherby in 1993 where La Locanda, as it was then, became the most popular Italian Restaurant Wetherby has ever had, catering for over 350 diners per night on it’s beautiful riverside setting.
La Locanda eventually moved to new premises on the site of The Barleycorn Pub in Collingham a few miles out of Wetherby and was eventually sold to an Italian Restaurant Chain who have since re-branded the restaurant to suit the chains requirements.
Franco has been asked constantly by his old regular customers when he was re-opening an Italian Restaurant in Wetherby for the last couple of years, and is now delighted to be so close to the opening of his new establishment in June.
The Angel, where his new restaurant is being built will continue to trade from a brand new sports bar area, which is being developed above it’s existing location and will continue with all it’s regular offerings of Wines, Spirits and Beers along with Pool Table facilities and new dance floor.
Below the Sports Bar will be a brand new Italian Wine Bar which will become a relaxing place for restaurant customers to meet and enjoy a few drinks before they move through to the new restaurant to dine. The facility to enable customers to do this was a key part of the successful formula Franco had when he was at riverside and something his customers have not been able to do since he moved out of Wetherby.
The Italian Restaurant will provide an exciting environment to accommodate up to 140 diners at a time and is sure to become as popular as any of Franco’s previously successful establishments and will enable over 400 diners to be fed each day.
The menu’s are being planned and prepared at the moment and many new dishes are being tried and tested to further enhance the popular items which have always featured in Franco’s menu’s. Below are some of the old favorites, many of which are sure to be available when the new premises opens.
